Summary:
Reporting to the Merchandising General Manager, the Food Merchandiser is responsible for collaborating to develop the merchandise strategy for the Food category, to maximize the sales and ensure that KPI’s are met within MUJI U.S.A. and Canada stores.

Role and Responsibilities

Range Management
• Develop/Launch new products with local venders
• Check FDA Regulations and create nutrition labels
• Assist in planning, building, and presenting the bi-annual range plans for the division
• Collaborate to phase sales, stock, intake and markdown based on historical analysis
• Communicate with the Visual Merchandising team and the Japanese Head Office to validate bay plans
• Set the critical path for the team to follow, making sure deadlines are met and coordinate with other departments

Stock & Sales Management
• Assist with optimizing allocation plans to meet the stores’ needs
• Assist with guidelines and priorities for sales, stock markdown and intake
• Help in setting store inventory targets for the Associate Merchandisers to follow
• Review monthly department reports
• Aid in seasonal launches in line with sales plan
• Manage food stock availability and track expiration dates
• Manage opportunities and resolve issues that are costing sales and cash margin
• Foster strong cross-departmental relationships to ensure merchandising goals are met

Team Management
• Daily management and development of the Merchandising Department Associates
• Knowledge and Skills
• Research – strong skills in conducting market research and analyzing sales data to identify customer trends and preferences
• Analytical skills
• Organization skills
• Good communication and negotiation skills
• Familiarity with current retail trend and food business
• Computer literacy – knowledge of basic excel skill to generate reports, analyze data and communicate with team members
• Comfortable in a high-pressure environment – the ability to meet tight deadlines and manage multiple projects simultaneously allows adaptive response to market trend and customer preference
• Able to build effective relationships across the business

Education and Experience
• Experience managing food purchasing, inventory control, labelling
• Knowledge of FDA regulations
• AS degree in and/or equivalent experience in a Retail setting
• Basic mathematical ability
• Accurate with good attention to detail
• Japanese skill +
