SUMMARY:
The Sr. Mechanical Manager supports and engineers’ activity of Mobile LCD development projects especially for small size devices, working with Design Center in Japan, providing leadership in the conception, definition, planning, and directing of new concepts and approaches to the design and the development of new technologies. Responsible for mechanical engineering of the new product development from conception to market.
Performs all tasks in accordance with company policies and procedures, exercising reasonable regard for his or her own safety, the safety of others, and the safety and security of company property.
Responsibilities
Introduces our LCD Technologies to customers and analyzes their needs.
Coordinates and communicates with Customers at first, Marketing Group, Sales Group, Field Technical Group, Design Center, Europe and the Design Center in Japan.
Communicates frequently with customers globally as required.
Engineer for mechanical design and develop LCD module working with Design center in Japan.
Develops technical documents to assist customers.
Trouble shoots technical problems over the phone and at customers’ facilities.
Publishes applications notes and/or technical articles.
Trains the staff and customers in their area of expertise.
Makes short term and long-term engineering plans.
Investigates new technologies and analyzes the cost performance method for the design.
Collects LCD market information in the U.S. to report to senior managements.
Reports on department project status monthly to Design Center in Japan.
Travels to communicate and coordinate project activities.
Seeks ways for the organization to improve.
Maintains regular attendance in accordance with current position needs and department expectations as defined by divisional executive management.
Develops and documents design methodology and procedures.
Identifies patentable intellectual property and work with corporate counsel to develop patents.
Authors and presents technical papers for relevant technical journals or conferences.
Performs other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Requires a minimum of seven (7) years of LCD circuit design experience for small size LCD and automotive applications, ten (10) years preferred.
Design experience should include COG, COF, TAB, LCD panel, FPC, Backlight and optical sheets, plastic parts, metal bezels and cellular phone product design.
Requires strong mechanical background for display and Tier1 parts
Knowledge and experience with CAD tools is required (3yrs).
Written and speaking English and Japanese language skills preferred for this job.
Understanding of profit & loss, marketing experience is a strong plus.
Ability: to read, analyze, and interpret common scientific and technical journals. Ability to write speeches and articles for publication that conforms to prescribed style and format. Ability to effectively and professionally negotiate with, present information to, and respond to questions from groups of engineers, mechanical engineers, managers, top management, and customers.
Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.
Ability to consistently exercise discretion and judgment in performing the essential functions.
