Japanese manufacturer seeks a senior manager of purchasing, logistics and export.

Description: This is a senior manager position with direct reports for warehouse and purchasing personnel. You will be employed to perform the following principal duties and your principal duties will include, but are not limited to the following specific activities:

• Management and accountability of inventory for spare parts and machines in main location, offsite warehouses and in transit commodities.
• Run Monthly reports for cycle counts to ensure accurate inventory reporting
• Perform all necessary function in preparation, performance and completion of semi-annual physical inventory
• Manage, maintain and develop policy and procedures for all warehouse shipping and receiving functions such as but not limited to Receive and inspect incoming freight/product for input to the SAP inventory control system, distribution shipping/receiving documents to appropriate departments, Ensure all warehouse items (inventory and non-inventory) are properly labelled store properly and proper pack/crate/box merchandise for damage free shipment to customers and vendors
• Manage and monitor via brokers and transportation companies all import entries for import/export compliance as relate to tariff and duties. Reporting to management and government entities both domestic and foreign as needed.
• Arrange and coordinate shipping from partners. Communicate with partners and freight forwarders to monitor shipments. Compile shipping documentation and forward to appropriate department. Review partner invoices. Ensure documentation is accurate and corresponds to the purchasing and shipping documents;
• Manage, maintain and develop policy and procedures for transportation companies of machines as well as spare parts both for domestic as well as import and export. This includes monitoring ocean shipments and tracking arrivals.
• Maintain import and export codes for customs proper and expedient customs clearance of imported goods and coordinate with overseas shipping locations
• Monitor shipments (standard, 2nd and 3rd party drop shipments, return goods, machine options etc.) until customer needs are met and all internal procedures and documentation are complete.
• Monitor direct shipments from 3rd party vendors for proper proof of delivery and accurate SAP receiving
• Support Management and accounting departments in audits as required.
• Request quotations for materials, hardware, software or services from qualified partners. Create negotiation strategy and plan for price, delivery terms, and conditions and negotiate;
• Prepare periodic open order reports and track pending order on time delivery.
• Establish and maintain database of supply partners information, include certification status of each partner;
• Research and develop new sources of supply and partners. May visit potential partners to develop relationships, evaluate capabilities, and negotiate prices and terms. May be assigned to any range of departmental administrative or research operations such as file system development and maintenance, document interpretation, division inventory purchasing audits and/or new partner research;
• May be required to assist with interviewing, selecting, recommending, and hiring assistants and buyers. Train and supervise assigned staff. Provide direction to staff and assist in the investigation and resolution of problems;
• Assess performance of partners and sub-tier to ensure the delivery on time with acceptable quality in accordance with Purchase. Prepare periodic progress reports and track pending orders
• Seek and approach potential cost reduction for procuring items;
• Perform or assist with any operations, as required to maintain workflow and to meet schedules and quality requirements. Participate in any variety of meetings and work groups to integrate activities, communicate issues, resolve problems and maintain specified level of knowledge pertaining to new developments, requirements, and policies;
• Engage in all necessary and desirable travel to visit partners of the Company including its parent/related company, as well as to such other locations and for such purposes as the Company may from time to time request;
• Provide detailed weekly written business activity reports, including those with respect to all partner meetings and business trips;
• Maintain accuracy of and associated General Ledger Accounts
• Perform other related duties as assigned.

• 4 Year Bachelors Degree in logistics or similar business degree. In lieu of a degree 10 years’ experience in purchasing, import/export brokering and transportation logistics
• 5 or more years’ experience in purchasing, import/export brokering and transportation logistics
• Good oral and written communication skills with computer literacy of most commercially available PC applications and software. SAP or similar accounting ERP system
• Must possess a helpful, self-motivated and positive attitude with the ability to develop and maintain a good working relationship with employees and its customers. Bi-lingual capability in Spanish or Japanese is not required but will be of great benefit.

Working conditions:
• Up to 10% business travel
• Intermittent weekend work or overtime during high activity or high demand activities e.g. monthly, quarterly and fiscal year end closings or important shipment releases.
