< Your Role >
The company is looking for a correspondent for its Washington Bureau.
This position is responsible for providing quality reporting, writing, and editorial support to the bureau chief and correspondents, as well as the administrative support necessary to run the bureau as a news organization.
This position may attend press conferences alone or travel to other parts of the country and may collaborate with reporters in other areas, such as New York and Tokyo. In addition to the core responsibilities of assisting the bureau chief and correspondents as a researcher, the position may occasionally involve writing and editing English-language stories for publication in the Asia and other media published or distributed by our group companies, when possible.
< Responsibilities >
1,In accordance with the bureau chief's instructions, gather information relevant to the bureau’s news-reporting activities and conduct verification, fact-checking, and follow-up research as needed.
2,Research individuals or groups relevant to current events and trending news topics, based on a clear understanding of the needs of the bureau chief, correspondents, and subscribers.
3,Prepare comprehensive, easy-to-read summaries of findings and provide actionable recommendations to the bureau chief and correspondents.
4Build and maintain strong relationships with key policymakers, government officials, experts, and other influential figures.
5,Assist the bureau chief and correspondents in securing exclusive interviews with government officials and other key individuals.
6,Stay informed on a wide range of U.S. political, economic, social, and cultural issues by attending press conferences, events, and reaching out to key contacts.
7,Schedule interviews for the bureau chief and correspondents; collect, analyze, and organize essential data related to those interviews.
Assist the bureau chief and correspondents with written and oral English communication as needed.
8,At the request of the bureau chief or correspondents, locate interviewees, conduct initial interviews on their behalf, and provide detailed feedback on the results.
9,Understand and stay aligned with the Nikkei Group’s editorial direction; engage in proactive networking to help the organization stay competitive and enhance content quality.
10,Collect and organize data from a variety of sources, including newspapers, magazines, television broadcasts, blogs, and online platforms.
11,Maintain an up-to-date contact list of government officials, industry leaders, and other relevant individuals.
12,Serve as a liaison between the bureau and external institutions, making necessary arrangements for news-reporting activities, such as securing media passes.
13,Collaborate with other correspondents, under the news editor’s direction, to enhance the overall value of Nikkei content and support the execution of the news department’s operations.
14,In addition to core researcher responsibilities, occasionally write and edit English-language stories for publication in our Asia and other media published or distributed by Nikkei Group companies, when possible.
15,Use findings from research and interviews to write concise, accurate, and factual articles.
16,Edit stories as needed in preparation for editorial approval and publication.
17,Perform other duties related to the operations of the Washington bureau as required.

• Willingness to perform additional editorial tasks as needed.
• Must have proficiency in basic software applications including Word and Excel.
• Must have adequate compute literacy to learn and use other software applications and digital devices currently used, or to be used in the company.
