Position Overview
This position is responsible for preparing for and executing entry into the U.S. vitreoretinal surgery market, with a primary focus on single-use vitreoretinal forceps.
Rather than relying on brand recognition or extensive clinical datasets, this role will build the market through close collaboration with Key Opinion Leaders (KOLs), development of compelling clinical narratives, and hands-on distributor engagement.
The role will serve as a central driver of early-stage market creation in the U.S. retina space.
Key Responsibilities
KOL & Clinical Collaboration
Identify and establish relationships with Key Opinion Leaders (KOLs) in vitreoretinal surgery, including academic institutions and high-volume centers
Support early evaluations, wet labs, and hands-on product usage
Translate limited bench and preclinical data into credible, surgeon-relevant clinical value propositions
Collect structured feedback from KOLs and incorporate insights into product messaging and positioning
Market Development
Define clear, winnable clinical use cases (e.g., ILM / ERM peeling)
Build persuasive clinical stories in environments with limited formal clinical data
Support planning and execution of small-group meetings, workshops, and educational sessions at major congresses (ASRS, AAO, etc.)
Distributor (Channel) Support
Support selection and onboarding of U.S. distributors in collaboration with executive leadership
Train distributor sales teams on product usage, positioning, and differentiation
Serve as the primary clinical and product point of contact for early-stage distributors
Internal Collaboration
Provide market, clinical, and surgeon feedback to headquarters teams (R&D, Marketing, Executive leadership)
Support improvement of training materials, sales tools, and pitch decks
Act as a bridge between U.S. clinical reality and internal strategy
Candidate Profile
Must Have
5–8+ years of experience in the ophthalmic medical device industry, preferably in vitreoretinal surgery
Experience handling single-use (disposable) surgical instruments
Direct, hands-on interaction with vitreoretinal surgeons
(e.g., Clinical Specialist, Market Development, or hybrid commercial roles)
Experience working with or supporting U.S. distributor-based business models
Ability to operate proactively in environments with limited data, structure, or market awareness
Experience with manufacturers strong in vitreoretinal instruments
Nice to Have
Experience launching new products or opening new markets
Experience conducting wet labs or surgical training programs
Experience in roles spanning both clinical and commercial responsibilities
