An international boarding school in Purchase, NY seeks to appoint one Boarding Assistant in Boys’ Residence Hall during August 24, 2026 to June 30, 2027. The Boarding Assistant resides in a private apartment within a gender-separated dormitory that houses 50 students from grades 9 through 12 in each Residence Hall and provides supervision for all aspects of dormitory life. For the safety and security of our students, only Boarding Assistant employees may reside in the Residence Hall. Boarding Assistant works collaboratively with Head of House and generally works 4-6 days per week including alternating weekend shifts while school is in session, generally from around 3:15 pm to 11:00 p.m. and 7:00 a.m. until 8:00 a.m. regular weekdays. Work hours will vary for weekend, exam weeks and holiday shifts. During nighttime hours between 11:00 p.m. ~ 7:00 a.m., it will be on-call hours. Depending on the school’s needs, extra work hours may be required. Boarding Assistant will be asked to work in rotation during Spring Break to supervise students who remain at the dormitory.

REQUIREMENT:
• Bachelor’s degree (B.A.) or equivalent from four-year College or University.
• Resident supervisor, camp counselor or teaching experience is a plus.
• CPR, First Aid is preferred. The school provides an opportunity to obtain certificates after
employment.
• A driver’s license is strongly preferred.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Supervision and pastoral care:
o Oversee daily activities of boys in the dormitory, ensuring a safe and respectful living
environment.
o Respect and maintain the privacy of boys during personal hygiene activities and other sensitive
situations.
o Provide supervision and pastoral care for students through boarding life during non-academic
hours in principle, e.g. ensuring the safety and security of students, monitoring students’
behavior and dealing with disciplinary issues.
o Plan, execute and chaperone various events on campus and outside the campus.
o Support students’ social, intellectual, and behavioral development by providing pastoral care
as in loco parentis (e.g. developing awareness of health and living skills, checking health
conditions, dispensing instructed medications, accompanying students to be hospital, dealing
with emergency situations, and liaising with parents and outside support)
o
• Support for academic activities:
o In principle, teach 1-2 ILS classes per week in the Academic Extension Program or other
programs according to the School’s needs.
• Support for extra-curricular or sports activities:
o Assist with non-boarding extra-curricular activities as reasonably required by the related Dean
in Consultation with the Dean of Boarding.
• School duties:
o Participate in committees as assigned by the School.
o Assume School roles as assigned by the School such as Fire Marshall, advisor or officer for
student activities.
• Other duties as assigned:
o If Boarding Assistant is suitably qualified and asked by Chairs of Department to teach some
classes of the core Curriculum, Boarding Assistant will be remunerated $30 per class session.
o Maintain high ethical standards in the work place.
o Maintain good communication with students, parents, resident staff, faculty and outside
contacts.
o Reside in a boys’ Residence Hall (Dormitory). The room for Resident Faculty is on the same
floor and location where only boy students live.
o Enter rooms of students and wake students who don’t wake up until the due time.
o May include physical contact and/or observation of personal hygiene activities
o Monitor boys bathrooms and boys showers
o Conduct regular walk throughs and inspections of boys rooms, hallways and private dorm areas
to ensure cleanliness, safety, and adherence to school policies
o If necessary, Boarding Assistant is required to carry and assist any injured or disable student to
evacuate.
JOB DESCRIPTION
Student Life support
o Ensure to provide a safe environment for the dormitory.
o Ensure that students follow daily schedule and dormitory policies set by the school.
o Provide support and supervision for students during non-academic hours. Responsibilities
include, but are not limited to, staffing the dormitory offices to handle requests and questions
from students, and coordinating with nurse to care for sick students.
o Be available to students, as necessary, to support their personal, educational and academic
needs.
o Review and confirm multiple forms submitted by parents and students.
o Back-up Head of House when they are off-duty.
o Direct questions/concerns to the right contact.
o Provide 1-2 Independent Living Skills (ILS) classes per week as part of Academic Extension
Program.
o Plan and carry out various fun events for students (ex. House parties, games, shopping tours,
etc) both on and off-campus. Prepare snacks and food for special events.
o In case of emergencies during evening and nighttime hours, chaperone sick/injured students to
ER as needed.
o Pick up mail and packages for students from a storage room or the Administration Office.
o Ensure all students evacuate safely from the Residence Halls during fire drills and/or
emergencies.
o Other duties to be assigned by Head of House or Dean of Boarding

• Lifting/Carrying/Pushing/Pulling: Daily 2-20 pounds, occasional 30 pounds or more and during
emergency situations the need to carry a student.
