Position Overview
The Senior Project Manager leads complex exhibitions, public art commissions, and commercial
projects from concept development through final execution.
This role is responsible for expanding and strengthening the artist's global presence through the successful delivery of high-profile projects while maintaining the highest standards of artistic excellence, operational efficiency, and stakeholder satisfaction.
The Senior Project Manager will lead and mentor a team of 3–4 project professionals and collaborate closely with internal departments, museums, galleries, developers, collectors, public agencies, PR firms, and other key partners. The ideal candidate is a strategic thinker, skilled operator, and strong leader who can independently manage multiple large-scale projects in a fast-paced environment.
Key Responsibilities
Project Leadership & Execution
• Lead multiple exhibitions, public art commissions, and commercial projects from planning throughcompletion.
• Develop comprehensive project plans, timelines, budgets, and execution strategies.
• Translate artistic vision into actionable project deliverables while maintaining quality, schedule, and budget requirements.
• Ensure successful delivery of projects across all phases, including design development, fabrication, logistics, installation, and deinstallation. Strategic Planning & Prioritization
• Design and manage complex mid- and long-term project roadmaps involving multiple stakeholders and dependencies.
• Prioritize competing projects, deadlines, and resources to maximize organizational effectiveness.
• Anticipate risks, identify bottlenecks, and implement mitigation strategies before issues impact project outcomes.
• Make structured, business-driven decisions in high-pressure situations.
Team Leadership & Accountability
• Lead, mentor, and develop project team members while fostering a high-performance culture.
• Establish clear expectations, monitor performance, and ensure accountability for project deliverables.
• Address performance issues directly and drive meaningful improvement when necessary.
• Promote collaboration, professionalism, and operational excellence across teams.
Stakeholder Management
• Serve as the primary point of contact for key stakeholders, including museums, galleries, collectors, developers, architects, public agencies, PR firms, and external consultants.
• Build and maintain strong professional relationships that support long-term business objectives.
• Facilitate alignment between internal teams and external partners throughout project lifecycles.
• Present project updates, recommendations, and strategic insights to senior leadership.
Budget, Operations & Risk Management
• Develop and manage project budgets and ensure cost-effective execution.
• Oversee project logistics, transportation, contracts, insurance requirements, installation planning, and vendor management.
• Coordinate the review and management of legal documentation with relevant stakeholders.
• Lead risk management efforts and implement solutions to operational challenges.
Business Development & Public Relations
• Identify, develop, and pursue new public art and strategic partnership opportunities.
• Support business growth initiatives through relationship building and market research.
• Coordinate PR-related activities, media communications, and public-facing project initiatives as needed.
• Represent the artist's studio with professionalism and credibility across all external interactions.
Required Qualifications
• Minimum 5 years of project management experience in art, design, architecture, cultural institutions, luxury brands, creative agencies, or similarly complex industries.
• Minimum 5 years of people management experience leading teams of three or more employees.
• Demonstrated experience managing multiple large-scale projects simultaneously.
• Proven ability to develop project strategies, execution plans, budgets, and stakeholder communication frameworks.
• Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
• Experience managing contracts, logistics, transportation, fabrication, installation, and operational workflows.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to travel domestically and internationally as required.
Preferred Qualifications
• Experience managing exhibitions, public art installations, museum projects, cultural initiatives, or large-scale creative productions.
• Experience working with internationally recognized artists, museums, galleries, developers, architects, or high-profile clients.
• Strong understanding of public art project development and execution.
• Experience working in a fast-growing entrepreneurial or founder-led organization.
• Fluency in Japanese and English.
